A nutritionist has explained why Meghan Markle's high price tag for her 'As Ever' products is not due to the ingredients listed, following the launch of her new brand. For its first collection, As Ever's launch includes a raspberry spread in keepsake packaging, a raspberry spread without keepsake packaging, herbal lemon ginger tea, herbal peppermint tea, herbal hibiscus tea, flower sprinkles, crepe mix, shortbread cookie mix and a limited-edition wildflower honey with honeycomb.

Meghan's raspberry spread in keepsake packaging costs $14 (£10.80), while the limited edition wildflower honey with honeycomb was priced at $28 (£21.60). The herbal teas - lemon ginger, peppermint and hibiscus - cost £12 (£9.30) each with the crepe mix and shortbread cookie mix both priced at $14 (£10.80). Speaking to the Mirror, Jodie Brandman, a nutritional therapist and coach, said: "I don't get the price tag in terms of the actual ingredients...You are clearly paying for the name."

One of the products on sale on the site, which sold out in minutes, is the Raspberry Spread, which Meghan has gifted to friends and family in the past year. The main ingredient is raspberries, which Jodie says is a good sign.

"The ingredients are quite clean," she explains. "There is more fruit than sugar, which is promising and better than some of the other brands out there." But Jodie warns this still can't be considered "healthy", due to the added sugar.

The nutritionist also gave her verdict on the cookie mix. "The shortbread is tricky because it’s now a legal requirement to fortify flour with folic acid," she says. "I personally avoid and recommend avoiding synthetic additives - especially folic acid - as a nutritionist, especially for hormones and fertility.

"Again with things like dextrose and powdered sugar, it's far from a healthy option. You're probably better off to make your own at home and get some edible flowers."

As Ever's first collection of seasonal products contained "limited qualities" of each product and sold out within the hour of launch.

Meghan posted the news on her Instagram to announce the success with sales: "Our shelves may be empty, but my heart is full! We sold out in less than one hour and I can’t thank you enough…for celebrating, purchasing, sharing, and believing. It’s just the start @aseverofficial. Here we go!"

But theories behind Meghan Markle's 'sold out' product line for her brand, As Ever, quickly circulated on social media, with fans speculating she had a very limited number of products to sell, as advertised on one of her social media posts.

One claimed: "Meghan released limited quantities & then acted proud that it was sold out. Small businesses do this to gauge interest in their brand & adjust in the future. There wasn’t much faith in her brand, her stock was so small at launch, in the 100s only or less!"

Fans of the Duchess of Sussex, however, who were not able to get their hands on any items took to social media to demand a re-stock. One fan wrote: "We need restock ASAP" and another said: "Congrats but restock those shelves please."
