Mumbai News Live Updates: Mumbai woke up to light to moderate rainfall on Sunday morning, marking the first spell of monsoon rains this year. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the western suburbs recorded 17.99 mm of rainfall, followed by 7.44 mm in eastern suburbs. According to the forecast, Mumbai will see a cloudy sky all throughout the day which will be accompanied by moderate to heavy rains.

In Thane and Palghar, people saw heavy rains overnight, leading to water-logging in some areas, say officials, as per PTI. There were reports of tree branches falling in some areas of Thane city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had indicated that heavy showers are on the cards for the bay from today. An orange alert stating the likelihood of heavy showers on June 11 was sounded for Thane and Raigad districts.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena’s Prataprao Jadhav is set to take oath as Union minister today in Delhi. Jadhav, who is an MP from Buldhana Lok Sabha constituency, received an invite from the Prime Minister’s office. He is a four-term MP and three-term MLA from Sena. He was also minister in the first Shiv Sena BJP state government between 1995-1999.

With just 20.39% water in dams, 4,011 tankers deployed in Maharashtra

With only 20.39 per cent water remaining in Maharashtra’s dams, a total of 4,011 tankers have already been deployed to supply water to villages and hamlets in the state.

Last year, the number of water tankers being used in the first week of June was only 350.

According to the data from state government’s Water Resources Department, Marathwada region (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division) is left with only 8.22 per cent water in its dams. Read more

Thane, Palghar witness heavy showers, many areas left water-logged

According to PTI, Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra witnessed heavy rains overnight, leading to water-logging in some areas, say officials.

There were reports of tree branches falling in some areas of Thane city. In the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Sunday, Thane city received 37.06 mm rainfall. The maximum downpour of 16.76 mm was recorded between 12.30 am and 1.30 am on Sunday while 10.93 mm rain was witnessed between 3.30 and 4.30 am, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.

According to the forecast, Mumbai will see a cloudy sky all throughout the day which will be accompanied by moderate to heavy rains.

Awhad questions deployment of private bouncers at Powai demolition site

The presence of private bouncers at Powai’s Jai Bhim Nagar, where over 500 shanties were razed by the BMC on Thursday, has raised eyebrows as the homeless dwellers of the basti continue to languish on the streets.

During his visit to the site, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad questioned the deployment of the private bouncers and pointed to a state GR which prevents demolition during monsoon months.

One killed, 3 injured as 2 groups clash over family dispute in Mumbai; 7 held

Police arrested seven persons after a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death while three others were grievously injured when two groups of the same family clashed at Mumbai’s Chunabhatti area early Saturday.

According to the police officials, the deceased have been identified as Adnan Qureshi and the three injured persons are Arif Khan (29), Imran Qureshi (19) and Asif Khan (26).

The arrested accused are Salman Khan (18), his brother Aman (20), Mohamed Anas Shaikh (28), Sama Sheikh (28), Sana Khan (21), Husena Shaikh (49) and Shakeel Shaikh (23). Two others, Saban Khan and Imran Khan, who are still on a run, are Salman’s brothers.
