Jennifer Lawrence Teases Miss Piggy Movie's Take on Cancel Culture
After revealing her involvement in a Miss Piggy movie with Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence shared intriguing insights into the project's inspiration. In a recent interview, Lawrence recalled an idea sparked during the pandemic, where the concept of cancel culture coincided with her personal experiences.
"During lockdown, I thought about how Miss Piggy, a feminist icon, would be hilarious if she were canceled," Lawrence explained. "This wasn't the movie's plot, but it got me thinking."
As she noted, Miss Piggy hasn't had a solo project yet, and Lawrence took the initiative to produce it. She described her and Emma Stone's dynamic, where Stone is the creative force, and she's more of the idea generator. This collaboration led to Cole Escola writing the script, a perfect match according to Lawrence.
The Miss Piggy movie is set to bring a fresh take on the beloved Muppet character, who rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s. Despite Kermit's stardom, Miss Piggy has always been the show-stealer. With a potential appearance by Lawrence and Stone, the film promises to be a fun and thought-provoking addition to the Muppets universe.
The Muppets franchise, celebrating its 70th birthday, is gearing up for a reboot of The Muppet Show, produced by Point Grey Pictures and starring special guest star Sabrina Carpenter. This exciting development comes as a TV event on Disney+ in 2026, marking the 50th anniversary of the original series.
